He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?" - Romans 8:32

CJ Mahaney: The Cup

A powerful portrait painted of Jesus' wrestling in the Garden of Gethsemane & the implications for us. You will not hear many things more powerful than this.

Makes Me Want to Cry

My dad has been keeping me up to date by links on some of the happenings in this years SBC 09 meeting. I think I cried a little when I read what Southeastern Seminary President Danny Akin said:

Great missionaries must be theologians, and truly great theologians will be missionaries.

Now, can we get some of these great theologians to the field? Yesterday? Pronto? Vamos? Put down your commentary...that's it. Shut your laptop - good boy! Ah, ah, ah, stop debating with your buddy on tertiary issues - hey! hey! - put down that latte!! And your iPod fully loaded with Piper...actually, go ahead & bring that & grab the commentary too. That's it . . . come on to the mission field! Give a decade!

Cynicism vs. Hope

I think after reading these two reports on what is happening at this years Southern Baptist Convention, cynicism & hope are locked in a battle to the death! Only time will tell which will prevail!

Have You Heard the Good News?

I have people in California who aren't with the IMB sharing this information with me first, & finally got if off a blog from a co-worker who lives in Tokyo, but God is at work for the 2nd summer in a row there. "Hey Tokyo...circulate this good news around a little more loudly!"

This is a major cause of rejoicing & a major prayer request as the goal is not numbers to report but disciples following & loving Jesus. Please join the Tokyo team in prayer & pray we in the smaller, regional towns will see a similar harvest soon:

So far this summer I believe we have seen almost 20 Japanese become Christians through the interns and vols that are serving here. What has been the challenge in our last summers is follow up, getting these new friends of ours discipled! Please pray that we can do this, and that we can serve our new brothers and sisters by helping them along the first steps as a child of God.

Controversy: Faithful in a Fallen World

Doug Wilson - Why is Calvin controversial?

Sometimes you can cause controversy by pride or stupidity too, but Wilson brings up a good point here. If we are faithful in a fallen world, then we are bound to bring controversy. Instead, I think we choose comfort.
